Infographic: The importance of scheduling for employee engagement

Go back

Mar 18 2019

To have an optimal workforce scheduling is very important for employee engagement. As we could see in our post “The importance of scheduling for employee engagement“, employee engagement is important to reach great revenue results at store. But not only for that, disengaged employees don’t take care of revenue and generate an extra cost in many points, which could be unacceptable.

Employee replacement cost can be as high as 3.600€ per employee, and the average turnover rate in the retail industry is higher than 67% nowadays. This means that the labor cost of staff turnover is extremely high.

Disengaged employees make 100 times more mistakes than their engaged coworkers. This fact also generates costs due to inefficiency.

And 52% of shoppers switch brands because of subpar customer service. Which means if you don’t offer exceptional customer service, you’re losing sales and profitability.

Then you have to take into account 4 main points when improving the employee engagement in store:

  1. Salary and benefits.
  2. Work environment.
  3. Talent development and grow opportunity.
  4. Scheduling and workload.

Salary and benefits: employees value a salary commensurate with their performance and benefits such as flexibility.

Work environment: the work environment is very important, as employees spend most of the day in the workplace.

Talent development and grow opportunity: employees want to feel that they have a future in the company and that they can grow within it.

Scheduling and workload: employees value schedules that allow them to easily organize their work and personal lives. Having a normal workload is also important, as having a high workload is one of the main reasons for leaving the company.

Particularly  in the retail sector due to the wide extension of store opening times,  the importance of the customer experience,  and the variable workload dependent of the customer visits, are specially important the work environment, scheduling and workload.
